As February begins, we find ourselves feeling a little bemused as to how January has managed to slip past quite so fast, but definitely enjoying the lengthening daylight hours and the promise they hold that spring is not too far away. Before we get to that though, February seems set on living up to its reputation as being one of the coldest months of winter with low temperatures and snow on the menu for most of us for the next little while.
The start of February is the midpoint between the December solstice and the March equinox, an occasion traditionally marked by the Celtic fire festival Imbolc, a celebration that honours the slowly returning light in the northern hemisphere. The corresponding festival for those in the southern hemisphere is Lammas, which traditionally celebrates the gathering in of the first fruits of the year’s harvest. Chinese New Year will be celebrated on February 5th this year taking us into the abundant year of the Earth Pig.

The Energies of February
Possibly you are still considering the impact of the powerful full moon lunar eclipse that took place on January 21st. Sadly, the physical spectacle was invisible to us here in Norfolk due to some untimely cloud cover, but this in no way diminished our energetic experience.
Many people seem to have found the energies around this full moon initially somewhat uncomfortable, but also helpful as the insights and realisations that it triggered flowed in. If you still have some lingering issues connected to this energetic event, now would be a good time to allow the insights to flow so you can be ready to move forward as the month progresses.
February is going to bring us some positive forward moving energies that will feel a little lighter and more supportive than some we have experienced recently. The new moon on February 4th will be the gateway for these energies, bringing us a powerful opportunity to organise our focus and priorities for the future.
Possibly the insights that you received over the last month or so will already have given you some ideas to ponder. It is important to be clear with yourself even if what you find yourself contemplating appears to challenge some of your comfort zones. In fact, this would not be surprising given that the focus of the energies around the new moon will be on helping us to move into greater alignment with our true selves.
As February progresses, we are going to find the energetic pace picking up somewhat as Chiron finally moves fully from Pisces into Aries. Chiron is often described as the ‘wounded healer’ and brings a focus to the healing of our deepest wounds. In Pisces this healing is focussed on wounds to our spiritual self. In Aries the focus will move to healing wounds in the personality that are preventing us from living and expressing the individual uniqueness of our true self. Aries is fast moving fire energy, so we may well find ourselves feeling pushed to clear any old resistance in a new more insistent way.
Pay attention to the shift of energy around February 18/19th as Chiron moves signs and you may get a sense of anything you personally need to focus on to allow you to live more fully in the light of soul awareness.
The Influence of Aquarius
Each month of the year the sun shines upon the Earth through a different planetary constellation, magnifying its influence and the energetic qualities and opportunities that it stimulates. This year the sun moved into the constellation of Aquarius on 20th January, so we are now receiving the full flow of magnified Aquarian energy.
In astrology Aquarius is represented by the symbol of the water bearer, who freely distributes the waters of life and love to all.
The airy, expansive energies of Aquarius stimulate connection to the higher mind and bring forward the spiritual values of unity, sharing, freedom and right human relationships.
From our perspective looking out to the cosmos from Earth, Aquarius is now occupying the influential position of Earth’s rising sign, as you might see it in an individual astrological chart. This means that we are now fully into the Age of Aquarius, so not only will we experience an annual magnification of Aquarian energy, it will also remain a consistent and potent influence on Earth for the next 2000 + years.
Light in the Darkness

The current cosmic influences on the Earth and humanity are designed to help us evolve and grow, so that we move up the next spiral of evolution.
They are stimulating movement in the direction of greater spiritual awareness, self-responsibility, understanding of the unity and inter-connectedness of all life and the need for us to act for the common good of all life forms living on the earth.
We can see these influences playing out in many ways, both within ourselves and in the world around us. On the one hand, consciousness is definitely expanding, and many more people are now awakening and beginning to search for new understandings about life. Many are extremely concerned about the state of the planet and clearly see the need for us to make changes before it is too late.
On the other hand, there is an obvious and powerful force in the world in denial and resistance, intent upon holding everything in the old place. They are working the polarities so that chaos and confusion is all that can be seen, unless we remain mindful and aware of what is going on. Currently we seem to be witnessing a global version of ‘Groundhog Day’ as extreme polarities pull against each other creating stalemate and blocking positive movement in so many areas of life.
In this situation it is vital that we do not loose sight of our own power to hold a different vibrational patterning and intention for the future. Remember that we have the support of the universe and the evolutionary flow of energetics that it is providing to help us. Rather than get caught up in the prevailing culture of mis-information, manipulation and disempowerment we must do our best to see beyond the standard, ‘normal’ version of reality and apply spiritual understandings to the situation.
This inevitably means being very clear with ourselves about our own patterns and making sure that we own and transform anything that is limiting our ability to bring in the wisdom and guidance of our true self. The energies this month will be fully supportive of your efforts in this regard so go with the flow as much as you can. Most importantly never underestimate the power that your own light and truth has to dispel the fog of darkness, whether this be for yourself or the world around you.
Essence Suggestions for February
There is lots of supportive energy around this month to help us adjust old belief systems and move into a more empowered version of ourselves, so we have based our essence suggestions for the month around this theme, to highlight some common issues.
Positive Self Value
A positive sense of self is a very important foundation stone for greater self-empowerment. So many of us struggle with this because it is rarely modelled to us successfully while we are growing up. A basic lack of self esteem can lead to feelings of never being good enough and is a deterrent to giving yourself full permission to explore and accept who you are. It can also contribute to personality traits such as the need to be ‘right’ or ‘better’ than others.

Understanding your own internal motivation is so important as we move forward. Check in regularly to see if what you are choosing in your life is based on what feels right for you or whether you are being hijacked by a still unconscious trigger. For instance, a need to please others or conform to the ‘norm’ in case you no longer fit in.
Fear is often the sponsoring emotion in this situation so consider either the Inner Calm; transforming fear combination or Strength & Courage Spray; overcoming fear to help here.
