Choosing Essences for Pets & Animals

A Quick Guide to Using Bach Flower Remedies and Flower, Gem & Crystal Essences with Animals

Many people find that their animals gain great benefit from using essences and the effects are usually noticeable quite quickly.

Much like when you choose an essence for a person, when you choose an essence for a pet or animal you are dealing with the underlying issues rather than surface symptoms. So look at how your pet or animal is responding to issues or situations in their life. Are they afraid, jealous, angry, traumatised, reluctant, hurt? When you’ve identified what issues your animal is dealing with you can then choose an essence that will help with that pattern or response.

How To Choose Essences for Animals

Bach Flower Remedies for Animals

Bach Flower Remedies are usually a good place to start with animals. They are gentle acting and help to bring balance to the issues that your animal is working with. We'd recommend choosing the Bach Flower Remedies that most closely match your pet’s personality and behaviour to bring them back into balance. When choosing their remedies, it’s also helpful to consider whether it’s a recent issue or a long standing situation. Has anything happened to cause a change in their behaviour? Depending on the size of animal and the issues that they are working with we'd usually suggest between 1 and 6 Bach Remedies. You can explore what each of the Bach Flower Remedies does here.

Here are a few examples of common patterns....

Essences for Fearful Animals

As a general guide, Mimulus is a very useful essence for fearful animals and Revival Remedy is very supportive when an animal has strong fears or trauma. We offer Revival Remedy in a dropper bottle and a spray version. Essences are best used orally with animals but can also be sprayed in their auric fields or massaged into their fur.

Essences to HelpĀ  Animals Adjust to Change

Walnut can help animals adjust to changes in the home (e.g. new baby or new pet) because it eases transitions.

Essences for Power Dynamics Between Animals

Power issues between different animals in the household can often be resolved by giving Vine to the dominating personality and Centaury is the one for the one who is being dominated. Holly is a good choice for animals that lash out in anger.

Essences for Animals Who Need Attention or Dislike Being Alone

Chicory and Heather can be good choices for animals who need a lot of attention and don’t like to be left on their own.

Essences for Animals With Obsessive Behaviour or Who Groom Obsessively

Crab Apple is a good Essence for animals who exhibit obsessive behaviour or who groom obsessively or over groom.

Deeper Acting Essences for Animals

Beyond the Bach Flower Remedies some of our single Flower, Gem and Crystal Essences can be very helpful for specific issues or to work with patterns at a deeper level. Depending on the size of your animal and the issues that they are working with we'd usually suggest between 1 - 3 of the deeper acting single Flower or Crystal essences.

Here are a few examples of common patterns....

Essences for Fearful Animals

The St. John’s Wort Flower Essence is a very useful flower essence for transforming all kinds of fears so it can be a great support for nervous, fearful or anxious animals. Garlic Flower Essence is often another good choice to help with this issue.

Essences for Traumatic Situations

The Larimar Crystal Essence is a very useful crystal essence for releasing trauma from the energetic system so this is often a great choice for rescue animals or other animals who have experienced trauma or abuse.

Pest Infestations

Both the Garlic Flower Essence and the Snapdragon Flower Essence taken together are useful for pest infestations in animals since they help to create an energetic pulse in the auric field of an animal that is irritating to insects.

Please note that we would not recommend using the Karmic Essences or our combination essences ( Divine Harmony, Chakra, Inner Child, Rainbow Light Body Essences etc ) with animals.

How to Use Essences With Animals

Once you’ve chosen their essences there are a numnber of ways of giving them to your animal. The best way is orally as , simply add 4 drops of each chosen remedy to your pet’s water bowl, bucket or food bowl and continue daily until you notice a difference. It’s fine if multiple animals in the same household share bowls since the essences will bring balance to any pets who need them and simply have no effect on those who do not.

Put it on pulse points or in your hand so that it can be licked off. It’s only as successful as the mount that you can get down your animal. Drops in the mouth best but if not food and water bowls. Put on a biscuit or treat. The best thing is direct dosage. Standard brandy but can make in vegetable glycerine.
It can be very interesting to put out two water dishes for your animal, one containing essences and the other without. We hear regular stories of animals intuitively choosing the container with their essences because they can sense when an essence is going to help them and also when they no longer need those essences! N.B. We recommend using essences at stock level when adding them to an animal’s food or water bowl.
